DEVLOG 7 - FRIDAY, AUGUST 4th, 2023

Since the previous development log, a lot of happened. I started legally my own company and named it Affordable Care Entertainment ( https://affordablecareentertainment.com/ ), did a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy - massive THANK YOU to all of you that helped me with it! A couple of days ago I finally get some of the new equipment to work with, still waiting for delivery of the most of them, but yesterday arrived my first Mac ever - MacBook Pro M2, on which all the previous backend work that I made to optimise the game really paid off.

On Intel i3 laptop with integrated graphics card, I got around 20-30 frames per second before, and on this M2 machine I got between 170-270 fps, together with new shadowing and lightning system, and occlusion culling technical mumbo-jumbo that I set up before this machine arrived. It is always an amazing feeling when you see a project you have been working on, playing this smooth, but of course that is not only thing that I added on previous month of work on this project.

Besides graphic visual and performance improvements, I also added now three interchangeable character models (not final models, just holders), so that you can play with the one that visually suits you best, since physically they all still play the same. Also added the sphere that blocks your progress if you didn’t complete the previous mission and that teleports you back to the starting position if you try to cheat the game. Improved UI elements, added particle and decal effects where needed, and made a first version of breakable barrels.

Made a cinematic mission system too, that changes on press of the M key according to current mission, also a underwater look, but still a lot of work needs to be done to make this game much more fun to play and if you are interested in following about this #gamedev journey, be sure to check out the tag #tothehallofthemountainking
